Born in the Bronx, New York, to Dominican parents, Christian Reyes, professionally known as Jay Valera, was raised in a home where music and art were part of everyday life. In December 1997, at just six years old, Jay and his family moved to the Dominican Republic to begin a new chapter. It was there that a simple nylon-string acoustic guitar sparked what would become a lifelong passion for music.

 Largely self-taught, Jay learned by observing musicians at church and studying local live performances. Over time, he developed his skills on guitar and later expanded into drums and songwriting. As a teenager, he joined a local rock band, recorded original songs, shared music during the early rise of social media and digital distribution, and performed throughout Santo Domingo’s growing live music scene.

 In 2009, at the age of 18, Jay returned to New York determined to pursue music professionally. Years of dedication and artistic growth led to the release of his first single, “Tú,” in 2016, followed by his debut album, 27, in 2018. Written by Jay and co-produced alongside longtime collaborator and friend Randy Whisky, the project introduced a sound rooted in vulnerability, melody, and emotional storytelling. The release was supported by live performances and a media tour across the Dominican Republic, where Jay appeared on major television and radio platforms.

 Today, Jay continues to perform throughout the East Coast while consistently releasing new music that reflects his evolution as both an artist and producer. Blending elements of pop, R&B, soul, and Latin influences, his work is driven by honesty, emotion, and a deep connection to his roots.
